That is why college-age adults are the most likely age group to stop attending church regularly. Church attendance for Gen Z and Millennials has been dropping, but there’s a way to change that. What excites younger generations more than anything, is a sense of belonging. However, that feeling is growing increasingly scarce. Health insurer, Cigna’s 2018 U.S. Loneliness Index showed that Gen Z and Millennials felt more lonely than any other generation. Therefore, if you can discover how to connect with these generations, make them feel a part of something, and strengthen that bond, they are more likely to invest their time and energy into your church.

That’s three hours that you can use to make an impression and start the conversation. The best way to do that is through social media. Social media advertising has been around for a while, but new additions like Snapchat and Tik Tok have made advertising easier and more effective than ever before. 

How To Reach Young Audiences By Being Authentic

Social media platforms like Snapchat and Tik Tok speak the language of these generations. More specifically, they are authentic. Authenticity speaks to Gen Z and Millennials more than anything else. If they feel “sold to”, you can bet they will tune you out. User-generated content with an organic feel on Snapchat and Tik Tok can not only connect with the audience, but consumers could watch the whole ad without realizing it’s an ad! As important as it is to be in the right place, it’s also important to strike the right tone and authenticity should be priority #1. 

Use the Right Format

In digital marketing, video is by far the best format to promote engagement on social media. That’s why it’s best to spend your time doing outreach on the platforms where video is most natural. The majority of users consume video-based apps like Tik Tok and Snapchat with the sound on, which makes video advertising on these channels even more successful.
