Church YouTube AdvertisingLast Updated: October 6th, 2020

Here are the details for church YouTube advertising provided by Missional Marketing.

We’ll show video ads for your church on YouTube. The good news is you don’t pay for random impressions or “maybe-they-saw-its”. Viewers have to choose to watch your video and your costs are minimal.

You can show videos that play longer than 30 seconds, and you can experiment with different formats. For example you can show a video of a testimony of a person who found faith in your church. Or you could show a video of your church’s leaders explaining what your church stands for. It can also be effective to show a video about an upcoming event or sermon series.

These video ads appear on both YouTube and other publisher sites in the Google Display Network for desktop computers and high-end mobile devices.

With church YouTube advertising, you pay when a viewer watches 30 seconds of your video (or the duration if it’s shorter than 30 seconds) or engages with your video, whichever comes first. Video interactions include clicks on the call-to-action overlays (CTAs), cards, and companion banners. Unlike cost-per-click or cost-per-thousand impressions pricing, you won’t need to pay every time your video is viewed.

Church YouTube advertising can be targeted to specific geographic areas and they can also be targeted to specific demographics.

STEP 1 – CHOOSE YOUR VIDEO FORMAT

The two church YouTube advertising formats are described below. Your church can choose one or both of the formats.

YouTube In-Stream Church Video Ads

This is the format that is most often used by churches.

Use this format when you have video content you’d like to promote before a video on YouTube. These ads are the kind of video ads that run before a main video that a viewer has selected to watch on YouTube. After seeing the first 5 seconds of the ad, the viewer has an option to skip the ad and jump to the beginning of the video.

These kinds of ads are similar to TV commercials in the sense that they interrupt the viewer to show them something. These are the kind of ads a church would use if they wanted to make YouTube viewers in specific geographic area aware of their church.

In-stream videos can appear on YouTube Video Views and on other video publisher pages that are in the Google Display Network.

YouTube In-Display Church Video Ads

This format is not used by churches as often as the In-Stream Video Ads described above.

This kind of video ad is more appropriate for church messaging that is educational or informative enough that a viewer might click on it if it piques their interest. A few examples are video ads about Christian Parenting or Successful Christian Marriage.

Use this format to promote a video next to YouTube videos, as part of a YouTube search result or within other website content across the Google Display Network.

In-Display video ads will appear:
• On YouTube search results
• On YouTube-related videos
• As a YouTube overlay
• On partner websites

You’ll be charged only when viewers choose to watch your video by clicking a thumbnail (a small graphical image) that is shown adjacent to the search result.

STEP 2- PEG YOUR BUDGET

Start by selecting the highest price you want to pay per view. This is called your Maximum Cost Per View.

We suggest a Maximum Cost per View of $0.50 per view. We also suggest a minimum spend of $1,000. So if you spent $1,000, you would aim for 2,000 views.

If your actual cost per view comes in lower, you’ll get more views as shown in this table:

Church YouTube Cost Per View
For an in-display video ad, you’ll pay when people begin watching your video.

For an in-stream video ad, you’ll pay when someone chooses to watch your video or clicks on the call-to-action overlays (CTAs), cards, and companion banners.

STEP 3 – DETERMINE WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE CAMPAIGN SET-UP

Assuming your church has a YouTube page and the video has been produced by your church and uploaded to that page, the campaign set-up fee is $100. If you need us to create the page and upload a video that your church produced, there’s an additional charge of $200 to set-up.

Note: The video content must be hosted on YouTube and a Church Video Ad cannot be played from other video channels such as Vimeo.

If you would like us to create the video we would have to determine the scope of work and provide you with a video production quote.

  1. Hello,

With all the new advertising restrictions on YouTube can you still place Religious adverts on YouTube?

    Also what about Facebook?

    Please advise.

    1. It’s a great question! We do run paid advertising campaigns for churches on both Youtube and Facebook, but of course, there are rules and guidelines for each platform. We’re well versed in many advertising platforms and we’d be happy to help your church advertise your upcoming services or events.
